This month, we had the opportunity to meet Nisali Siriwardene, an architectural designer and professional artist whose work bridges architecture, fine art, and live painting.
Nisali moved to Liverpool to study architecture, but after being captivated by the natural beauty of different landscapes around the UK, her creativity quickly expanded beyond architectural design. Initially, Nisali focused on portraits and abstract paintings, but she was inspired by her new surroundings and began to incorporate them into her work, focusing on textures and colours that perfectly capture the diverse elements of the local scenery. These elements now feature heavily in her expressive work, which encapsulates the essence and life of nature.
Beyond painting on canvas, Nisali keeps a visual journal through her travel journey sketchbooks, blending observation and storytelling. Her work is about connecting with her surroundings and capturing moments of inspiration, whether on a hike in the countryside or during outdoor painting sessions. As an art instructor with Liverpool Art Group, she teaches painting from life, welcoming all skill levels and helping students build their work layer by layer while encouraging expression and creativity.
Nisali is also a live painter and has taken part in competitions such as Landscape Artist of the Year, as well as other collaborative projects across the city.
These experiences allow her to bring her art into public spaces and connect directly with audiences, highlighting Liverpool’s rich creative community.
