Why Liverpool is The Best Place To Be

Yet again, Liverpool has been named one of the best places to live in the UK. At Address Properties, we’re no strangers to how amazing living and working in Liverpool is, as we’ve been operating here for over 10 years. So, to us it’s no surprise why Liverpool is being recognised as one of the ‘coolest UK postcodes’, and narrowly missed the top spot, being named the second “best place to live if you’re under 35” by The Times, who highlighted that Liverpool has the best “value-to-fun ratio” and “has new things happening everywhere’’. We’re just happy that Liverpool is getting the recognition that it deserves.

The Telegraph’s destination expert, Chris Moss, even rated Liverpool the number 1 city to visit this year, ranking above London, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Liverpool’s close neighbouring rival, Manchester! Moss noted that the city’s beautiful architecture, growing gastronomy scene, and strong art and music community are all features that left a lasting impression on him, leading him to rank the city so highly.

Iconic Music History

It’s no secret that Liverpool also has a rich musical history. As the birthplace of a multitude of musical legends, from The Beatles and Cilla Black to The Wombats, The Night Café and Circa Waves, Liverpool is renowned for its vibrant music scene. With The Beatles leading the pack of Scouse musicians, the city is rife with great tourist spots that helped to shape legends themselves. Tour buses run The Magical Mystery Tour, which takes you to spots like Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, The Cavern Club and more.

If new music is more your speed, then there are a multitude of bars and restaurants dotted around the city that host live singers, such as the famous Jacaranda, Sgt Pepper’s, and The Bookbinder. But it doesn’t stop there, as Liverpool also has some amazing event spaces like The Invisible Wind Factory, Camp and Furnace, and Hangar 34 that are always putting on exciting new events and DJ sets.

Plus, if you find yourself inspired by the buzzing music scene in Liverpool, there are also a range of spots that put on open mic nights, like The Albert and Liverpool Arts Bar, and Motel Bar even hosts a karaoke night where you’re accompanied by a live band. With multiple performing arts schools in Liverpool, such as the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and LMA Liverpool, it cements Liverpool as an amazing place to be for any music lover.

Thriving Food Scene

One of the things Liverpool is quickly becoming known for is its diverse and decadent, ever-growing food scene. Places like Bold Street and Castle Street showcase a range of amazing gastronomic heavy hitters all in one place. Whether you’re craving a fresh Greek gyros, handmade Italian pasta dishes, DIY Korean barbecue, hearty Vietnamese pho or classic fish and chips, you’re guaranteed to find it by simply strolling down one of these streets.

Other notorious food spots that are spaced out around the city are also not to be missed. From the stands in food markets on Duke Street, Renshaw Street and the Baltic Triangle, to Rosette-awarded delights like NORD and Spire. No matter what food you like to enjoy, and how you like to enjoy it, we can assure you that Liverpool will have a great option for you.

Lark Lane is also a great place to head over to after a scenic walk around Liverpool’s Sefton Park, or after taking your children to play on the playground. The street is loved by locals and is the perfect place to spend your weekends. Whether you’re looking for a quiet coffee and a scrumptious pastry at Lunko, or want to watch the Liverpool derby at the Masonic Arms before heading to one of the many well-rated restaurants, Lark Lane has you covered.

As Liverpool’s economy continues to grow and more businesses are blossoming here, meaning more jobs and attractive amenities, the city is seeing many first-time buyers and young families settling down in one of the many close-knit and prosperous areas. The Telegraph also recently recognised Liverpool as one of the best places to live for a better quality of life, noting that Calderstones is a perfect location for young families, and that Fazakerley is a great option for first-time buyers.

We are also seeing lots of people flock to the city due to properties, both rental and sales, in Liverpool being much more affordable compared to areas like London or Manchester. Katie Rosseinsky wrote for The Independent about her experience leaving London to move back to Liverpool, where she believes you get much more for your money in terms of rent, events and entertainment. Rosseinsky perfectly highlights how Liverpool can provide you with many of the same great amenities that other big cities have to offer, for a fraction of the price!

Legendary Nightlife

With a huge student population living in Liverpool of over 60,000, it guarantees one thing… there’s a great nightlife. One of the most notorious spots in Liverpool, known for its wild and bustling nightlife, is Concert Square and its surrounding bars and clubs that host student nights every day of the week and put on events for St Patrick’s Day, football events and much more.

Smithdown Road is also another popular location for those looking for a night out in Liverpool without the hassle of traipsing into the city centre. Smithdown Road is a popular spot for students in Liverpool, with bars like Black Cat, Beeswing, The Handyman, The Brookhouse, Kelly’s and more! There is even an event hosted each year called Smithdown Weekend, where local bars and restaurants put on events and offer great discounts all weekend long.

With the bustling nightlife attracting young people to Liverpool from across the country, it’s easy to see why Liverpool is becoming a place of immense interest for students, young professionals and property investors.
