Your Liverpool Move-In Checklist: Everything To Do Before Key Collection Day

Your Liverpool Move-In Checklist: Everything To Do Before Key Collection Day

Moving into a new home is one of the most exciting parts of renting in Liverpool. Whether you’re moving into your first student house, or a young professional HMO house share, move-in day marks the start of a brand-new chapter.

That said, moving day can also feel a little overwhelming. Between packing boxes, collecting keys, and coordinating with housemates, there can be a lot to think about.

The good news is that a little preparation goes a long way. By getting organised before key collection day, you can make the entire process smoother, less stressful, and far more enjoyable.

To help, we’ve put together a simple move-in checklist for our Liverpool tenants.

1. Check Your Move-In Details

As move-in day approaches make sure you’ve checked all the important information relating to your tenancy with our Lettings team.

This includes:

  • Your move-in date and key collection time
  • The address of your new property
  • Your key collection arrangements. Managed tenants will collect their keys from our office at 97 Mount Pleasant, Liverpool, L3 5TB. If your property is not managed by Address Properties, your landlord will contact you directly to arrange key collection.
  • Contact details for your letting agent

If you’re renting through Address Properties, our team will provide everything you need ahead of move-in day. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to get in touch before the big day.

2. Complete Any Outstanding Paperwork

Before collecting your keys, ensure all tenancy documents have been signed and any outstanding payments have been made.

This may include:

  • Tenancy agreements
  • Guarantor agreements
  • Deposit payments
  • First rent payments

Completing these steps in advance helps avoid delays and ensures key collection day runs smoothly.

Our Address Properties team will be contacting any tenants due to move-in who still have outstanding documents or payments. This helps us to keep our tenants informed and allows us to avoid any delays during key collections.

3. Confirm Your Key Collection Arrangements

Before move-in day, make sure you know how and where you’ll be collecting your keys.

For fully managed Address Properties tenants, you’ll need to book a key collection appointment with our lettings team by calling 0151 709 0500.

To help move-in day run as smoothly as possible, keys can only be released during a pre-booked appointment. If you have not booked a collection slot in advance, we won’t be able to release your keys when you arrive.

For let-only properties, key collection will be arranged directly with your landlord. If you haven’t yet received details, we recommend contacting them before move-in day to confirm arrangements.

We recommend confirming your collection plans as early as possible to avoid any delays on move-in day.

4. Plan Your Journey

Move-in days can be busy across Liverpool, particularly during the summer student changeover period.

Think about:

  • How you’ll travel to your new home
  • Parking arrangements
  • Access to the property
  • The best time to unload belongings

If you’re moving into a Liverpool rental property in the city centre of Kensington Fields it’s worth checking parking restrictions beforehand to avoid unnecessary stress.

5. Pack Smart

Rather than throwing everything into random boxes, try packing strategically.

Label boxes by room and keep important items separate, including:

  • ID and important documents
  • Chargers and electronics
  • Medication
  • Toiletries
  • A change of clothes and pajamas
  • Basic cleaning supplies

Having these essentials easily accessible will make your first night much more comfortable.

6. Know How to Report Maintenance Issues

Before moving in, it’s useful to understand how maintenance reporting works.

While every property is thoroughly prepared before tenants arrive, occasionally issues can arise after move-in. You may find an unreported maintenance issue upon moving into the property, especially if a property has been empty over the summer, or if there was a short turnover period.

Knowing how to report maintenance concerns quickly can help resolve problems faster and ensure your tenancy gets off to the best possible start.

Address Properties tenants can report any maintenance issues through our online Maintenance Portal.

7. Familiarise Yourself With Your New Area

One of the most exciting parts of moving to Liverpool or moving to a new area is exploring your local neighbourhood.

Whether you’re moving to Smithdown Road, Kensington, the City Centre, Wavertree, or elsewhere, spend some time getting to know what’s nearby.

Look out for:

  • Local supermarkets
  • Bus routes
  • Train stations
  • Cafés and coffee shops
  • Parks and green spaces
  • Libraries and study spots

The sooner you get familiar with your surroundings, the quicker your new house will start to feel like home.

8. Save Important Resources

It’s always useful to keep important information in one place.

Before moving in make sure you know where to find:

Having quick access to these resources can save time if you need assistance during your tenancy.

9. Coordinate With Your Housemates

If you’re moving into a shared house or Liverpool HMO, it’s worth speaking to your housemates before move-in day.

You might want to discuss:

  • Who is bringing shared kitchen items
  • Who is supplying what cleaning supplies
  • What small appliances are not already in the property that you may need
  • Move-in times
  • Bedroom allocations (if not already agreed)

A little communication beforehand can prevent duplicate purchases and make settling in much easier.

10. Most Importantly…Get Excited

Moving house comes with plenty of practical tasks, but don’t forget to enjoy the experience too.

Whether you’re starting university, moving in with friends, beginning a new job, or relocating to a different part of the city, moving into a new home is an exciting milestone!

Liverpool is a welcoming, vibrant city with plenty to explore, and your new home is the starting point for countless new memories.
